About Me
I am currently the Director (所长) of Robotics and Automation Research Institute, at Midea Corporate Research Center of Midea Group (美的集团), where we explore core technologies, frontier technologies, and basic technologies in the robotics and automation domain. I also work as a Professor of Practice in Southern University of Science and Technology(南方科技大学), a new uprising pioneered university in China, and as an adjunct associate professor in ZJU-UIUC Institute, a leading international collaborative education and research facility in China, supported by Zhejiang University and UIUC.
Before that, I was the CTO of Sihe Inc. (思核科技), where we built industrial AI solutions to empower SMEs in various industrial domains. In 2013-2018, I was the Chief Researcher (主任) of Learning Robot in Robot Laboratory and then of Robot Software in the Basic Research Laboratory at FANUC Corporation, leading the research development of the next generation robot software (including but not limited to planning, control, teaching, learning, etc.) and the frontier robotic research collaboration with university.
Before I joined industry, I was a Ph.D student and then a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Mechanical Systems Control Lab in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley. I worked with Professor Masayoshi Tomizuka on the several research projects including "A Hybrid Control Systems Approach to Brain-Machine Interfaces for Exoskeleton Control" and "Intelligent Control of Robot Manipulators for Performance Enhancement".
I obtained my M.S. and Ph.D. degrees both in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley in May 2009 and August 2012, respectively. Prior to coming to UC Berkeley, I was an undergraduate student in Zhejiang University majored in Mechatronic Engineering and also hornored in Advanced Class of Engineering Education (ACEE) of Chu Kochen Honors College, where I got my Bachelor degree in June 2007.
